The source of the contamination was traced by the FDA to a wheat protein that had been exported from China, and had been used in many of the pet foods that are distributed in the United States as well as worldwide. Nutro has been making nutritious, quality pet food for more than 80 years. The company began in 1926 by a man named John Saleen, who bought a dog food company from a British businessman.
